Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed

  • As Percy and Li'l Pea emerge from the theater, they're talking about the movie they just saw ... just like at the beginning of Larry-Boy & the Fib from Outer Space! They didn't like this one as much, though. The peas also look into the sky, as if expecting another fib to fall to Earth. (The music that plays is from Larry-Boy & the Fib from Outer Space!, too.)

  • The Bumblyburg movie theater is on the corner of Vischer Street and Nawrocki Road. The streets are named after Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, the creators of VeggieTales. Phil also directed this episode, and performed the voice of Alfred (among others). Mike stars as the voice of Larry-Boy.

  • Check out the sign on top of the building where Larry-Boy catches the Milk Money Bandit: it's for the "Bumblyburg Florist," and features none other than Jimmy Gourd.

  • Larry-Boy is definitely a spoof on Batman. Some tell-tale signs: the Larry-Mobile works a lot like the Batmobile, Larry-Boy's butler is named "Alfred," and his identification line is a soft and intimidating, "I'm Larry-Boy."

  • The Milk Money Bandit is played by scallion number three, which is likely a subtle reference to Are You My Neighbor?. The three scallions stole Larry the Cucumber's milk money in "The Story of Flibber-o-Loo."

  • Larry-Boy delivers the Milk Money Bandit to Officer Scooter of the Bumblyburg police. Scooter is standing by his car listening to "I Can Be Your Friend," from the video Are You My Neighbor? (the same song he was listening to during the last Larry-Boy adventure). Later, Scooter is listening to the song again when Alfred pulls up next to him on his motor scooter.

  • Check out the bulletin board at the back of the classroom at the Veggie Valley Grade School: there's a picture of Bob and Larry that says "Read." You'll also see kids' art posted above the chalkboard at the front of the classroom. The pictures were drawn by kids at a Chicago-area school just for the video, and scanned in by Big Idea's animators!

  • There are lots of brand new Veggie characters in the background all throughout the show. Look for gourd (Gourdy), cucumber (Barth) and blueberry (Renee) children in the classroom scene, plus a mushroom family, a chilli pepper, a red bell pepper, an onion, a pumpkin and more in the town square. (You can read profiles on the new characters at Larry-Boy.com.)

  • Guess who performs the voice of Mayor Blueberry? It's none other than Gail Bock, who also does the voice of the Rumor Weed and the voice of the gossiping woman in the window. (Madame Blueberry's voice was done by Megan Moore Burns in Madame Blueberry.)
