THE FRENCH PEAS
Vital Statistics:
Type of Vegetable: Peas
First Appearance:
Dave and the Giant Pickle
Voices Performed By: Mike Nawrocki (Jean Claude),
Phil Vischer (Phillipe), Chris Olsen (Cristoffe)
Though peas appeared first as chocolate factory workers in "Rack, Shack & Benny,"
they were not distinguishably French until they portrayed the Philistines in "Dave and
the Giant Pickle." The characters are likely a takeoff on the French soldiers from
Monty Python and the Holy Grail. On the VeggieTales Christmas album "A Very Veggie
Christmas," the three lead peas are given names: Jean-Claude Pea, Phillipe Pea and
Cristoffe Pea.
THE FRENCH PEAS' PERFORMANCES
Rack, Shack & Benny
Though peas do appear as chocolate factory workers in "Rack, Shack & Benny," they are not
yet distinguishably French.
Dave and the Giant Pickle
The French Peas make their debut as the Philistines, who taunt the Israelites and hope to
make them their slaves.
The Toy That Saved Christmas
The Pea family does appear in "The Toy That Saved Christmas," but they are not the French
Peas. The only exception may be one young pea, who can be heard yelling, "Waa! Buzz-Saw
Louie!" with a French accent.
Very Silly Songs!
The French Peas contribute to the sing-along video by typing out the words to each song
on Qwerty, by bouncing up and down on his keyboard.
Josh and the Big Wall!

The peas star as the keepers of the mighty wall of Jericho, who relentlessly taunt the
Israelites and pummel them with slushies in "Josh and the Big Wall!" The peas finally
learn that God is with the Israelites when their mighty wall comes crashing down!
The peas also stop Bob from turning off the "What Have We Learned?" song at the shows
conclusion. They toss a slushy at him, yelling, "Not so fast,
tomato!"
Madame Blueberry
Jean Claude and Phillipe help Bob and Larry host the show, and Jean Claude
narrates an old French tale, "Madame Blueberry."
